
Detroit Cass Tech’s Donovan Peoples-Jones
These five high school football players had superb performances to help their teams win semifinal games:
Donovan Peoples-Jones, Detroit Cass Tech: The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior wide receiver caught three passes for 185 yards and scored touchdowns on receptions of 78 and 80 yards to help Cass Tech to a 48-41 victory over Canton in a Division 1 game.
Jared Smith: Pewamo-Westphalia: The 6-0, 205-pound junior running back carried the ball 30 times and gained 193 yards and scored TDs on runs of 3 and 2 yards to lead P-W to an 30-0 upset of Division 7 state champ Detroit Loyola.
Noah Poore, Clinton: The 5-10, 185-pound running back moved to wildcat quarterback and gained 248 yards on 28 carries and scored on runs of 95, 1 and 50 yards and an 80-yard kickoff return in Clinton’s 42-20 win over NorthPointe Christian in Division 6.
Jake Smith, Ithaca: The 6-0, 170-pound senior quarterback completed 14 of 26 passes for 178 yards and TDs of 4 and 8 yards and gained 142 yards on 21 carries with TDs of 4 and 4 yards as Ithaca qualified for the D-6 finals for the sixth straight year with a 28-19 over Traverse City St. Francis.
Martell Pettaway, Detroit King: The 5-10, 205-pound West Virginia commitment carried the ball 15 times and gained 147 yards while scoring touchdowns on runs of 45 and 2 yards to help King to a 40-6, Division 2 victory over Livonia Franklin.
