These five high school football players turned outstanding performances to help their teams win Week 9 games.
Zach Schwartzenberger, Saline
The 6-foot-0, 185-pound senior quarterback completed 17 of 18 passes for 191 yards and a TD. He also carried the ball four times for 39 yards and a TD to lead undefeated Saline to a 38-3 win over previously unbeaten Birmingham Groves.
Hunter Rummler, White Pigeon
The 5-11, 180-pound senior running back/linebacker ran for 258 yards and scored TDs of 54, 71, 13 and 52 yards on 14 carries and also contributed 10 tackles and a sack in White Pigeon’s 42-6 win over Colon.
Lew Nichols, Southfield A&T
The 5-10, 190-pound sophomore running back carried the ball 27 times and gained 265 yards, scoring on runs of 62 and 59 yards to lead the Warriors to a 28-14 win over Oak Park to clinch a playoff spot.
Johnny Tracy, Walled Lake Western
The 6-3, 208-pound senior QB enabled Western to win its fourth consecutive KLAA Lakes championship by completing 19 of 28 passes for 288 yards and touchdowns of 36, 14, 36 and 12 yards in a 37-7 win over Brighton.
Drew Stout, Carson City-Crystal
The sophomore quarterback/defensive back completed 28-for-42 for 384 yards and five touchdowns. He also carried the ball 14 times for 92 yards. Defensively, he had two interceptions, returning one 77 yards for a TD.
