Cartersville (Ga.) QB Trevor Lawrence
The Michigan State coaching staff has been aggressive on the recruiting trail during the spring evaluation period. The staff has been especially focused on the class of 2018 and prospects from Georgia, Florida and Texas. On Monday, it continued the trend. Here is a look at the newest players to receive an MSU scholarship offer.
Cartersville (Ga.) QB Trevor Lawrence
Other Offers: Over 30 from BCS schools.
When it comes to quarterbacks for the class of 2018, many believe that the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Lawrence is the top player in the nation at his position. Rivals.com currently ranks him a 5-star recruit. Lawrence has spent the spring attending camps and combines and has outperformed four- and five-star recruits for the class of 2017. Going to SEC Country to land a five-star quarterback is no easy task, but if Tyler O’Connor gets drafted for the NFL, the proof will be in the pudding. No team in the nation is producing pro-style NFL quarterbacks at a better clip than MSU. Lawrence will certainly make a Midwest trip and the Spartans will look to make a strong impression when he does.
Cocoa (Fla.) WR Bruce Judson
Other Offers: Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson and others.
The 5-9, 185-pound Judson is reminiscent of fellow Florida standout McGarrett Kings. The Spartans scored so many early commitments in the class of 2016 that they did not hit the Sunshine State as hard as they normally do. This year looks to be a more “normal” cycle for the staff. Judson has an offer list that contains top programs for coast to coast. He has indicated that he is open to all suitors and wants to visit numerous schools this summer. The Spartans are hoping to have him on campus this summer so they can sit down with him and go over exactly how they would use his skill set. Judson is the No. 88 player in the nation overall by Rivals.com.
Yoakum (Texas) RB Jordan Moore
Other Offers: Missouri, Texas Tech and Houston.
The 6-0, 180-pound Moore will be one of the most sought after running backs in the nation for the class of 2018. MSU has dabbled in Texas the last few years, but for 2018 they seem to be intent on making serious in-roads there. Over the years, fellow Big Ten programs such as Iowa and Purdue have had success in the Lone Star State. There is no reason to think that the Spartans cannot sign multiple high-level recruits from Texas every year. The staff has early offered several players and is hoping they can get them on campus in the near future. Moore is presently an unranked recruit, but that will change in the near future.
These are just a few of the recent offers that Mark Dantonio has extended. Expect June to be a busy month for the coaches.
