Greenville’s Keegan Cossou is one of the top tight end recruits in the Midwest for the class of 2017. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect already has five scholarship offers and is primed to pick up more. He is rated the No. 14 prospect in Michigan by Rivals.com.

Tight end recruiting will be crucial for Michigan State for the class of 2017. The Spartans will graduate seniors Josiah Price and Jamal Lyles and they have only signed one tight end in the last two recruiting classes. Cossou is one of the players the staff is closely evaluating for a potential scholarship offer. I asked him about his recruitment and the schools that are involved.

“I have offers from Central Michigan, Toledo, Western Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Buffalo,” Cossou said. “Some of the schools that show consistent interest are Michigan State, Penn State, Michigan, Pittsburgh and Illinois. I plan on visiting Illinois in March and Michigan State for a basketball game next weekend.”

Cossou had a strong junior season, catching 40 passes for 582 yards and five touchdowns. He was named All-Conference and All-Michigan by USA TODAY Sports.

MSU has been recruiting Cossou for quite some time and they have watched him develop over the last two seasons. The staff is looking forward to seeing his progress this spring and summer.

“They were first school that really showed me interest and that I visited,” he said. “I love everything about it there. Coach Mark Staten is my recruiter. I camped there this past summer and have attended a few games.”

If MSU decides to extend an offer to Cossou they will get very serious consideration. The depth chart as well as how the Spartans utilize the tight ends in their offense is appealing to him.

Rison wins MVP

This past weekend, the Best of the Midwest Combine was in Indianapolis. Wide receiver Hunter Rison showed why he is one of the best player so the nation at his position and top priority for MSU. Rivals.com Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt said the Spartans legacy recruit “put on a clinic” on how to get separation.

“If he has not drawn this comparison already, I’m going to be the first to say he reminds me a lot of recent Ohio State slot receiver Jalin Marshall from both a size and skill standpoint,” Helmholdt said. “Rison is explosively quick in and out of his breaks, and his 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame allows him to handle press coverage very well. The four-star prospect also possesses a strong pair of hands and attacks the football at its highest point.”

Rison is currently ranked the No. 31 wide receiver in the nation for the class of 2017 by Rivals.com. If he keeps performing the way he did this past weekend, he will almost certainly climb the national rankings.
