Michigan’s offensive line class took a few blows in recent weeks.

But Detroit Cass Tech guard Michael Onwenu is staying put.

On the “Cityballers” podcast tonight, Onwenu announced that he would remain in Michigan’s 2016 class.

“I’m going to take my talents to the University of Michigan,” Onwenu said.

Committed to Michigan since June, Onwenu never wavered until mid-January when Michigan State offered and wanted him to come visit.

So he took the trip the weekend of Jan. 22.

“I did take a visit down there,” Onwenu said, adding he wanted to look around and see what was there.

But he decided to stay with the Wolverines, who desperately needed him in the class after pulling the scholarship from Illinois lineman Erik Swenson earlier this month and seeing commit Devery Hamilton flip to Stanford over the weekend.

At 360 pounds, Onwenu told the Free Press in December that he figures he needs to lose about 15-20 pounds to get to 325-330 when he reports in the summer. He will join offensive linemen Ben Bredeson and Stephen Spanellis in the class.

Most of the Detroit PSL players are expected to sign at a ceremony together on Wednesday morning.
